GANESHA PROJECTS is founded by Steve Lapham and Sachi Lapham with the aim of spreading Ashtanga yoga, healthy yogic food and the life style that support progress in yoga. We have been on this path together since 2004 and shareing our experience in many countries. After travelling and teaching for 13 years together, we have moved our base to Newquay, Cornwall, U.K. where we can enjoy beautiful nature, ocean and surf, and set up Ashtanga Yoga Newquay.
Live the yoga and Keep it real!
About Steve Lapham
It was in 1998 that Ashtanga yoga came into my life, and I would have to say that it was just in time. Life for me was pretty crazy at that point and if I hadn’t found the therapy of the daily practice Ashtanga provides, then it would probably be a different story for me today. There is something very special that happens to a person when the practice takes hold, & this is what I wish to share with you.
In 2002, I first began practice with Sri K Pattabhi Jois and R. Sharath Jois on their tour in New Zealand. The late Guruji really inspired me and since 2004 I have been returning to Mysore deepening my connection to Ashtanga at its source. In 2010, my dedication to the practice was recognized by Sharath & was then selected for his level 2 (full intermediate series) training for authorised students, during which I was entrusted by him to oversee the class in his absence(for a wedding) and to teach the local Indian students including the Chief Commissioner of Mysore police. Since then I have regularly assisted him in the shala on my visits to Mysore. To apprentice this way has been a rare privilege. I also attended another intensive with him in 2016.
Currently I am learning the 4th series under Sharath's guidance, and my daily practice also includes the Ashtanga pranayama sequence. I am so passionate about these systems and believe in their efficacy towards ultimate health, that I continue to study classical Yoga philosophy, Sanskrit and Ayurveda and bring these practices of my direct experience into the class.
About Sachi Lapham
I'm originally from Japan and started travelling the world since I was 19 years old. It was during my second extended trip to India in 2004 when I met late Sri K. Pattabhi Jois (Guruji) and his family in Mysore, and I started daily Ashtanga yoga practice with R. Saraswathi Jois, daughter of Guruji. Since then I have been going back to Mysore almost annualy to practice with the Jois family.
I'm a level 2 authorised teacher(full intermediate series) and currently learning the advanced A series under R. Sharath Jois's guidance. I have had the privilege to assist Sharathji for a month, and attended his 2016 two-months' special course for authorised and certified teachers at KPJAYI.
I've been apprenticing with Steve Lapham for many years, who is a dedicated student of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and R. Sharath Jois. Apart from apprenticing with Steve, I have taught my own classes including leading daily Mysore classes in Thailand, Germany, U.K. and China.
I really appreciate that Guruji brought this Ashtanga yoga to non-Indians and that Saraswathiji accepted me as a student and introduced me to this amazing yoga system in 2004, and am deeply grateful to Sharathji for his continuous teaching and patience, and for guiding me in my life. Truly the experience has been beyond words.
Apart from the Jois family, I have practiced with Ashtanga yoga certified teacher Rolf Naujokat and his wife Marci for several extended periods in Goa, India during 2007-2012. I'm fully respectful toward those two and very thankful to them for their love and guidance.
This yoga is really helping me in life, giving me what I need and not just what I want. I feel very honoured to be able to share this yoga experience with others through my classes.
Along with my study of yoga, I have also been studying Sanskrit and chanting with Lakshmishji at KPJAYI, and have finished a few courses on Ayurveda with Dr. Anil Kumar Dixit, a well-known Ayurveda practioner and teacher in Mysore. I continue to research the effect of food in yoga practice and health from an Ayurvedic view point as cooking is another one of my passions .
